SAMBA
Every year our school has a special percussion group called the SAMBA. The school music teacher chooses some people from grade five and six. I am in grade five this year I was lucky enough to be picked to be in the SAMBA for the year! Also my friends Amelia, Stefan, Chelsea, Luke and Mark were too. The instrument I got were the wine glasses. At first I didn’t want to play them, but now I really like playing them because it’s different to other things. Some other instruments in the SAMBA are pots and pans, a-gogo bells, side drum, xylophone etc. It’s a really honorable thing to do at school.

Wow I would love to know how to play the wine glasses. I saw an all girl band from Iceland who played them beautifully a few years ago. They also had all these bells and other types of percussion. The four of them also played different types of string instruments and after they finished playing their music they turned into the backing band of the following performers. It was truly amazing. I think they would be very tired after all that music playing.
The SAMBA sounds like a great activity to be involved with. The students of my school live all over Victoria so it is hard for us to have great activities like that very often.
