Rainforest Tree

At the moment our topic is about the environment, nature, animals and protecting the environment. Our teacher got us to paint a picture of a rainforest tree. Showing the different parts of the tree. The different parts are the The Forest Floor (bottom or roots of the tree), The Understory (up the trunk), The Canopy ( the top of most rainforest trees) and the Emergent Layer ( higher than the canopy). We also added a person in the picture to compare the size a human would be next to a rainforest tree in the Emergent Layer. Now that all our paintings are done we are going to put them up in a group just like a rainforest.

Werribee Zoo

On Wednesday the 16th of October the grade fives went to Werribee Zoo for a school excursion. We went on the Safari Bus, went to the school and went to see some other animals. First we went to eat our play lunch. My friends and I ate in a little hut that was supposed to show what the aboriginals lived in. Then we went for a walk to see Monkeys and Lions. On the walk we also went into a sheltered room that had snakes, snake skin, turtles and mini crocodiles. My favourite was the mini crocodiles.

After that we went to the school. I wasn’t really looking forward to it but by the end I had lots of fun and learn a lot. First the man showed us an Umbrella holder that had been made from an elephants foot. :-( Then we got into groups of five and each group had something that had been made from animals. Some of the things we had was a boot, bags, instruments and medicine. My group had an instrument made from a tree. We also got to see some animals, there was a snake, frogs and a absolutely gorgeous, gorgeous, cute Sugar Glider named Isabella. She was so, so…..AAAWWW!!!!

Then we went on the Safari Bus Tour. That was my favourite, some of the animals we saw were giraffes, zebras, a hippopotamus, the five last white rhinoceros’s in the world and more. My favourite animals were the giraffes, hippo and rinos. When the Safari Tour was finished we went to eat our lunch. After that we went back to school. As a gift the Zoo gave us a tree to plant and a bird house. What an amazing day!

Interschool Sports

On Friday the 25th of October the grade five interschool sports teams played their first matches against Overnewton Taylors Lakes. The different sports were Bat Tennis, Tee Ball, Volley Star and Hand Ball. I am in team A for Volley Star. We get to play for Interschool Sports for four weeks. The other schools we will be versing are Mackellar Primay School, Overnewton Keilor and Sydnem Hillside Primary. We only had 3 hours of practice all together for our first game in Volley Star. The games were played at our school. We were very, VERY nervous when they arrived.  When we started playing I was really scared that I was going to make lots of mistakes, but I just tried my best. The team that wins is the teams that gets 15 points first. Our team got the first point.

Half way through the game we new we had a very skilled team and we had a great chance of winning!!! We won the first game, and the second game and the third game!!!!!! We played three games and won them all. The people on my team are Amelia, Amber, Eric, Monica, Jamal, Rebecca, Terasa, Isaac and Angelique. Our coach was Ms Fletcher. I am really looking forward to the next game.

Planet X

This term we are learning about space. Did you know that there is a planet in our solar system that is just like earth? I has land, water and oxygen. But it’s further away from Earth than Pluto so we can’t get much information. I really love learning about the planets. It is so interesting. ;-)

Cross Country

People from Taylors Lakes Primary School competed in the District Cross Country. The people that made it into cross country had to qualify. Some people made it into the zone cross country. It was my first time at cross country and it was a really hard course. It takes determination and hard work. There were nine schools competing and all together we came fourth. Everyone tried their hardest and did a fantastic job. GO LAKERS! :-)
